bradford north District scouts

Explorers international evening

As previously reported, Bradford North Scouts are priviliged at the moment to be playing Host to Nasr Alfazari, from Oman. On Tuesday 26th February Nasr joined Explorers from 'The Edge' Explorer Scout Unit (ESU) to tell them about his expiriences of Scouting in his own country as well as his impressions of Scouting in this country.

Nasr explained that how in Oman, Scouts are very much respected like the police and army are, and the Scouting movement in his country are held in a very high regard. In Oman Scouting takes place in Schools and is slighty different to how we are set up this country, in that they have Cubs, Scouts, Advanced Scouts and then Rangers, as opposed to our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and Fellowship.

Scouting started in Oman in1935, and is based around the idealogy of "citizenship", as Scouts are led by the Chief Scout of the country who is the King! Or as he is known in Oman as "The Great Scout." Scouts are responsible in their own schools to make sure that things run smoothly and are seen as protectors, they are responsible for taking care of the flag, with ceremonies taking place at the beginning and end of the day. Whilst Nasr was talking it was clear that he was very passionate about his Scouting, and the Scouting of his country. He has invited any groups who would like to listen to his stories about Scouting to arrange a night where he can come down and talk.
